WEXFORD's Mayor George Lawlor was among those getting to grips with a sticky issue on the streets of the town last week.

On Thursday, Wexford County Council and Wexford Borough Council, with the help of the mayor, and Cliona Connolly, environment awareness officer, were on the streets of Wexford to promote the correct disposal of gum litter with the help of some Gum Litter Task Force ad-bikes.

Wexford is stepping up its campaign against gum litter and asking people to 'Bin It Your Way, in the second year of a three-year campaign.

During Thursday's event, representatives from Wexford Tidy towns and the Department of the Environment distributed gum wraps and other campaign materials.

Co-ordinated by the Gum Litter Taskforce in association with local authorities around Ireland, the awareness campaign aims to reduce the amount of gum litter in the most practical way possible.

'The campaign delivers a serious message in a lively and creative way about keeping our streets and footpaths clean of gum litter so I'm delighted to lend my support to this innovative and catchy campaign,' said Cllr Lawlor.

'The posters and TV ads have attracted loads of attention and we are already seeing a visible improvement on our streets which we are striving to maintain. It's in all our interests to "Bin It Your Way".'
