Midnight walk on Wexford Lions' agenda
The annual Wexford Lions Club 'Walk for Wexford' takes place on August 25, 26 and 27, with participants choosing from a midnight walk in the Raven, a history-packed promenade through Tintern Abbey and surrounds and a Sunday morning ramble around Forth Mountain.
Funds raised from this sponsored event are spent locally with 100 per cent of money collected going to the various projects.
In recent times, Wexford Lions Club have donated €5,000 to Our Lady of Fatima School to assist with the purchase of essential equipment for their students.
A further €2,000 was presented to St Brigid's Day Care Centre in relation to a new bus for clients attending the centre.
Lions Club President Ger Cashman said every cent that people collect in sponsorship is redistributed with careful consideration of the many requests we receive for assistance.
'Participants in the walk can be assured that their efforts are appreciated by the Lions Club and the greater community,' he said. The Raven walk starts at 10 p.m. and participants will be using headlights and torches, as well as wearing high vis vests. Walk co-ordinator Seamus Flood said all the walks are suitable for beginners, covering reasonably flat terrain and are approximately 10km long.
