Moore is gracious in defeat
GRACIOUS in defeat, Jim Moore outlined his support for the three Fine Gael general election candidates after he failed to make the party ticket last Thursday night.
Taking to the podium immediately after the result was made known, Cllr Moore acknowledged that in every competition someone has to lose and on this occasion it was him.
The Kilmore councillor said he owes a great debt of gratitude to his family, branch members and 'all those who thought me worthy of their support and vote'.
Cllr Moore thanked everyone for their support and encouragement, before adding his support to Deputies Paul Kehoe, Michael D'Arcy and Senator Liam Twomey.
He described the convention as ' a great night's work on behalf of Fine Gael and Wexford', with his participation having introduced an element of competition that increased interest and swelled the attendance significantly.
The general consensus among the Fine Gael members at the selection convention was that Cllr Moore had put in a strong performance during his speech, but the support for Senator Twomey was far too strong for him to mount a serious challenge on the ticket.
