Mother-of-six is banned for driving while uninsured
A MOTHER-of-six from Taghmon who drove without insurance has been put off the road for one year.
Helen Nugent (41), of Ardinagh, Taghmon, came before Wexford District Court charged with driving without insurance at Taghmon on October 17, 2009.
Eva Lalor, for Nugent, explained that her client was paying her policy with Quinn Direct through direct debit.
Ms Lalor said that Nugent felt she was covered to drive at the time, but Quinn Direct had in fact cancelled her policy due to missed direct debit payments.
Judge Donnchadh O Buachalla heard that Nugent has 12 previous convictions, including motoring offences, but none since 2005.
The judge heard that the defendant's children are aged from 26 down to 16 and that she is in receipt of €226 per week in social welfare.
Judge O Buachalla disqualified Nugent from driving for one year, but postponed the ban until March 1. He adjourned the case until May 16 as he said he would like to see a probation officer's report before imposing any other penalty.
