Motorist left scene of accident
A MAN who left the scene of an accident was fined a total of €1,000 and was banned from driving for two years at Wexford District Court on Monday.
Derek Murphy, Redshire Road, Murrintown, was fined €600 for failing to remain at the scene of an accident and a further €400 for failing to report the accident. Another charge of failing to give appropriate information after the accident was also recorded against the defendant.
Murphy, a 37-year-old married man with no previous convictions, claimed that his car had been stolen subsequent to the accident. The owner of the other car involved in the accident was compensated by the defendants insurance company.
The court heard that the defendant had owned a construction business which had since failed. He is now a student and lives with his family in a 'remote area'.
