Murder probe: six arrested
FILE NOW BEING PREPARED FOR THE DPP
A FILE is being prepared for the DPP in relation to the death of Wexford man Michael Connors (21), following the arrest of six people last week as part of the Gardai's ongoing investigation.
Three men and three women, ranging in age from 17 to 57years-old, were arrested at locations in Counties Wexford and Wicklow last Wednesday morning.
The six, who are all from the same extended family, were questioned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. Two were held at Wexford Garda Station, two in New Ross and two in Enniscorthy.
They were all released without charge 24 hours later, on Thursday morning, when the period of detention expired.
A Garda spokesman this week said that their investigation into the death of Mr Connors is ongoing and a file will be forwarded to the DPP.
Mr Connors, whose wife was expecting their first child, received serious head injuries in an incident in Belvedere Grove, close to the home of his parents Ger and Sally, in the early hours of June 30.
The young Wexford man, who lived in Cluain Dara, Clonard, never regained consciousness following the incident after which he was rushed to Wexford General Hospital.
He was subsequently transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where he died on July 8. A post mortem confirmed that Mr Connors died as a result of his head injuries.
There were a large number of people in the area at Belvedere Grove at the time the incident occurred and Gardaí in Wexford have spoken to a number of them. However, last week's arrests were the first in relation to their ongoing investigation.
It's understood that CCTV footage taken close to the scene of the incident has also been reviewed as part of the investigation.
Gardaí are still appealing for anyone with knowledge of the incident, particularly anyone in Belvedere Grove that night, to contact them at Wexford Garda Station on 053-9165200.
