New nursing home gets go-ahead
WEXFORD County Council has given the go-ahead for a 90-bed nursing home in Blackwater.
Anthony Neville & Sons Developments Ltd have been granted planning permission for the nursing home and all associated works at Crosshue and Glebe in Blackwater.
The site in question is some 400 metres from the church in Blackwater and about 700 metres from the centre of the village.
In a pre-planning meeting Mr Neville had been advised that the council would give ' favourable consideration' to a nursing home at the location as long as a footpath of about 200 metres and public lighting were provided, connecting the nursing home with the village.
The council said that this would allow more able-bodied occupants of the residential care home to gain safe access to Blackwater village, the church, post office and other facilities.
The Health Service Executive recommended that permission for the new home be granted by the council.
Granting permission, the council said that the design and layout of the nursing home are of 'a high standard' and that 'it should be an interesting building on the landscape as well as a stimulating environment in which to reside'.
