No money for new motorway says Varadkar
CONTROVERSIAL ROAD ON HOLD
THE Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar has confirmed that the controversial Oylegate to Rosslare motorway, will not go ahead for the forseeable future.
In a letter to the Joint Committee of Communities ( JCC) against the road, the Minister said the NRA does not intend to advance the project to the next stage at this time, due to the economic situation.
JCC chairman Michael Carroll welcomed the news but said it leaves people living along the preferred route in limbo.
'We are delighted that the NRA is at last seeing sense in relation to this project but the situation offers nothing in the form of justice to the many people along the route who have already had their properties significantly devalued and who will now face planning restrictions, he said.
The chairman accused Wexford County Council of knowingly allowing this 'deplorable situation' to develop, knowing full well that there was no funding available for many years to come.
He described the route selection process which cost about €2 million was a complete waste of taxpayers' money.
