Nuala was former golf club captain

NUALA RYAN of 21 Ard Carman Wexford, passed away peacefully in Wexford General Hospital on Friday June 15 2012. Nuala will be greatly missed by her loving husband Tom (TA) and her children Joseph, Carol, Orlagh, Bill and Ultan, son in law Adrian, daughter in laws Margaret and Tracy and eight grandchildren Grainne, Aoife, Ciara, Eimear, Liam, Ashling, Sarah Kate and Jenna.

Nuala was born in Dublin on May 14 1933. She was the daughter of a teacher and grew up with her three sisters Mary, Jan and Ann in St Canice's Road Glasnevin, right behind the tennis club that would play a role in her life right up until she passed away.

An avid tennis fan, Nuala would have the tennis on television every afternoon during the summer. On finishing school Nuala went to Bolton Street to study to be a draughtsperson and went to work for the Office of Public Works as a draughtsman.

During this time, Nuala met up with a Tipp man, Thomas A Ryan who was studying Agricultural Science in Albert College in Glasnevin. They married and moved to Hill of Down, Clonard, Co Meath where they started a family, with Joseph, Carol and Orlagh coming first. The family then moved to the sunny south east where Tom started a job with the Wexford County Committee of Agriculture in 1964.

They set up their home in 21 Ard Carman on Christmas Eve 1965 and in the early seventies, the family were joined by two more sons, Bill and Ultan.

In 1972 Nuala was introduced to the world of golf, which again would play a major role in her life becoming a great passion which she carried with her until her passing.

She became Lady Captain in 1983 and Lady President in 1998 and every Thursday without fail she would head for Wexford Golf Club to play in the ladies competitions. Nuala would attend all of the presentations at the golf club and was most proud whenever her beloved Tom or one of her sons went up to accept a prize.

Nuala was quite handy on the course herself and at the age of 74, she won her second ladies Captain's Prize. Nuala also had a great love of travelling and she and husband Tom enjoyed visiting destinations all over the globe, particularly London and Zurich where two of the family have settled. Nuala was also an extremely proud grandmother and she would never miss an occasion involving one of her beloved eight grandchildren.

All of the families from Dublin, Offaly, Carlow, Tipperary and Wexford will miss Nuala and her lovely smile. May she rest in peace.
