Numbers signing on increases
NUMBERS SIGNING on the Live Register in Wexford town rose in the past month, but fell in the three other main towns in the county.
The number of people on the Live Register in Wexford town had fallen from 6,837 to 6,391 between August and September, and remained low in October at 6,381, but rose in November to 6,552.
However the downward trend in the three other social welfare offices continued.
In New Ross, the downward slide had started in August, falling from 3,650 in July to 3,630 in August, and down to 3,456 in September, and 3,440 in October. The figure for November continued the pattern, falling to 3,381, the lowest figure since April.
In Gorey, the number of people on the Live Register in November stood at 3,984; down from 4,023 in October; 4,077 in September; 4,230 in August; and 4,219 in July, the highest figure this year. In fact, the November figure was the lowest this year.
In Enniscorthy, the November figure was down slightly from October; down to 4,521 from 4,528; and down from 4,589 in September, and 4,768 in August; and 4,776 in July, when it was at its peak for the year. The last time the figure was lower in Enniscorthy was February.
Overall for the county, the Live Register rose from 18,372 in October to 18,438 in November, thanks to the rise in Wexford town. The peak this year was August, when 19,465 were signing on.
