Old Wexford hospital is an 'eyesore'
THE old Wexford Hospital is a 'disgraceful eyesore'.
Cllr George Lawlor said it was 'a disgrace' and pointed out it was a listed building. 'It's a complete eyesore and a blight on the community.'
He wondered if the council was in a position to de-list it saying that this would make it substantially easier and cheaper for the HSE to renovate.
This was seconded by Cllr Davy Hynes who said 'it's a disgrace it's been lying there for so many years.
'Anything that will allow something to be done with it is welcome.'
He pointed out that a similar situation will arise with St Senan's in Enniscorthy.
The members said that at the moment it was prohibitive for any remedial works to be carried out at the site because of the rules and regulations governing listed buildings.
If the building were de-listed it would be cheaper to carry out works or indeed to sell the building on to another party.
Director of Services Tony Larkin said that he would re-examine the hospital listing and check the legal status
