Outgoing Marie Bierney cared deeply for her loving family
PEOPLE in Wexford were saddened and shocked to learn of the sudden death of Marie Bierney (nee Scallan) of 27 Liam Mellows Park.
Marie was one of five children born to Andrew and Elizabeth Scallan of Barrack Street.
Her family were always her number one priority and this was evident from an early age when she cared for both of her parents at a time when she had a young family of her own.
She met the love of her life, Paddy Bierney, in the Capitol Cinema and they were married in Bride Street Church almost 46 years ago.
In recent years they had enjoyed holidays and day outings together and the happy couple were seldom seen apart.
Together they had four children, whom Marie devoted her life to. She was always there for them and offered sound advice and guidance throughout their lives.
They looked on her as not only a mother, but as a mentor and best friend. When Marie spoke about her children she always referred to them as ' her girls' and her son David.
Marie reserved her greatest love for her six grandchildren. Her first granddaughter Lisa was like another daughter to her and after 16 years Marie would proudly exclaim that she now had another five grandchildren, all under the age of five.
All of them adored their 'Nanny B' and she was a huge influence on their lives. They also had a lot of fun with her.
Marie had an active social life and loved nothing better than going to the bingo in Clonard and St Joseph's every week. She had her own seat reserved in each place.
She was a much loved member of the Liam Mellows Ladies Social Club, who met every Monday night for tea, cards and quiz nights. Marie had many friends there and often laughed about the goings on in the Monday night club.
She went to the Talbot Leisure Centre every day for a swim and a Latte and she forged many special friendships there.
Marie was a real character and always said what she thought, a very admirable quality. She was kind, warm-hearted and generous and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Marie is survived by her loving husband Paddy, son David, her girls Caroline, Michelle and Yvonne, her grandchildren Lisa, Jamie, Thomas, Megan, Ellen and Andy, son-in-law and partners JImmy, John and Andy, her daughter-in-law Robyn, brother Bernie, sister Kathleen, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.
