LOCAL people in Riverchapel should have warned that they had a man he described as an ' active paedophile' residing in their midst, Cllr. Robbie Ireton claimed last week. Speaking at the July meeting of Wexford County Council, he wanted to know who was responsible for the presence of the man, who had a ten year jail sentence on his record.
Cllr. Ireton said that the child molester, who came from Kerry and was on social welfare, had been resident in one house and then moved to another. Director of services Tony Larkin pointed out that, as far as he knew, the individual had rented a house privately and there was no vetting process to monitor such an arrangement.
The council would only become involved with accommodating a former prisoner if he presented himself as homeless, he added.
