Parking at the Park is 'out of control'
PARKING was 'out of control' during Sunday's double header with Limerick at Wexford Park.
The Mayor Cllr. George Lawlor told Monday's meeting of the Joint Policing Committee at County Hall that he had been inundated with phone calls from residents living near the GAA park concerned about the manner in which people parked on Sunday for the Limerick matches.
He said the green area in Corish Park is 'semi-policed' by residents but a better option is needed.
Chief Superintendent John Roche said that if people could drive all the way on to the side lines, they would.
'It's an Irish thing,' he said.
Cllr Anthony Kelly said a park and ride system is needed to reduce traffic in the built-up area.
Superintendent Roche said a park and ride system was trialled for Skyfest but there was a very small take up. Another option was factory parking.
