Party politics backfires
Labour Cllr George Lawlor came under fire after at last week's Wexford County Council meeting he seemed to suggest that Cllr Ger Carthy was affiliated with a political party.
Cllr Carthy, who is an Independent councillor, was nominating fellow Independent Davy Hynes to a sub-committee to promote third level education in the county, when he was accused of being in a party. 'You are not a non party councillor; you are in a party,' Cllr Lawlor said.
'Just for the record there are more members in my party than there are in the Labour party,' Cllr Carthy said, looking around him at his fellow Independents.
