Pensioner wants his legal fees for €16,000 refund
A WEXFORD PENSIONER who had €16,000 confiscated from him has made an application to have the State cover the legal costs he incurred when seeking to have the money returned.
Thomas Redmond, The Gatepost, Coolree, appeared before Wexford District Court on Monday, where he made an application under the Police Property Act for costs against the State in relation to the money seized from him.
Mr Redmond told Judge Donnchadh O Buachalla that the money had been returned to him, but he was seeking to have the legal costs incurred in the process paid for by the State.
Mr Redmond brought with him copies of two previous judgements, both dating from the 1980s, that he said supported his case to have his legal costs paid for.
However, as Inspector Pat McDonald had not seen these judgements prior to Monday's court sitting, Judge O Buachalla adjourned the application until July 4 to allow the Inspector take legal advice on Mr Redmond's application and the two cases he cited.
