'Pile on' requests for road money - Carthy
Wexford District Council should 'pile it on' when looking for Government funding for road repairs following Storm Emma, Independent councillor Ger Carthy has advised officials.
On hearing that staff had been asked by Senior Roads Engineer Noel O'Driscoll to compile a list of the roads needing most attention, with a view to securing funding from the Government's storm damage repair programme.
'I would pile it on in relation to what I would be looking for to repair roads in the rural district. There are roads in a dire mess'. said Cllr. Carthy who asked if councillors could come up with recommendations.
Senior engineer Lar Lett said there is a deadline for funding applications and 'we have been told to put the pedal to the metal'. The Mayor of Wexford, Cllr. Jim Moore suggested that councillors could provide a list by the following Friday evening.
Mr. Lett also informed councillors that the roads department is currently concentrating on repairing potholes following recent storms.
in relation to footpaths re-surfacing, he said the Council would be looking at Rowe Street, Murrintown, Rosslare Strand and Tagoat.
