'Pink Walk the Walk' for Nicola
HUNDREDS OF pink balloons will be released during a special fundraising event in aid of the Nicola Furlong Memorial Fund.
The event called ' Pink Walk the Walk' will be held in Wexford town on August bank holiday Monday.
People are invited to take part in a 4 km family fun walk around the town before enjoying an outdoor music festival in Charlotte Street.
The fundraiser is being organised by young Wexford event promoter Feargal Hynes and the Centenary Stores.
It is being supported by Sam McCauley Pharmacies and Beat F.M. which will broadcast live from Charlotte Street during the afternoon.
Richie Doyle, the butcher will host a big barbecue and a selection of bands will play music.
Participants in the walk will be given pink balloons to release into the air.
All profits from the day, including the bar takings, will go to the Memorial Fund which has been set up to defray the expected costs faced by Nicola Furlong's family in travelling to Japan for the trial of the man accused of murdering her.
A €10 entry ticket for the walk will include admission to the festival in Charlotte Street which will be closed at either end for the event.
The walk will begin at 2.30 p.m. from Devereux car park beside the Bridge and bands will play until 9 p.m.
Tickets are on sale at the Centenary Stores, all Sam McCauley shops, Pettitts SuperValu stores and Greenacres.
Other fundraising events taking place include a coffee morning in the Cloisers Cafe at FDYS in Francis Street today (Wednesday), July 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; a table quiz in the Riverbank House Hotel this Thursday night, July 19; a coffee morning in Wexford Boat Club this Friday, July 20 from 10.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a race night in Enniscorthy Greyhound Track on Sunday August 5. Only the proceeds of tickets bought in advance of the race night will go to the fund.
