PLAYGROUND SMOKING BAN
Follow the example of Meath County Council and ban smoking from children's playgrounds. That was the plea from Cllr. Malcolm Byrne last week.
He suggested that it was a question of adults setting a good example to the youngsters as well as cutting out any possible risk of passive smoking.
Cllr. Michael Kinsella said that, as far as he was aware, the cigarettes are already prohibited from play areas in Courtown. County manager Eddie Breen responded that Wexford County Council was anxious to encourage child health but he was not sure how any ban would be policed.
Cllr. Byrne suggested that a by-law similar to the one dealing with the consumption of alcohol in public places would be in order.
