Pools, fans and sun loungers sold out, hotel searches up

Paddling pools, fans and sun loungers have disappeared off the shelves of Wexford's shops during the heatwave.

'We can't keep paddling pools in stock,' said a manager in Byrne's World of Wonder in North Main Street.

The store received a new delivery of plastic pools last Thursday morning but they were gone by the afternoon.

'We's hoping to get more in again later this week.'

'All our original stock sold out. We ordered more but they were no sooner in than they were gone,' said the manager.

At Argos in Keywest, paddling pools, electric fans and sun loungers were the top-selling items as customers searched for ways to cool down.

'We have none at the moment. They're all sold out. We're waiting for more to come in,' said an assistant.

'Everyone is looking for them. The phone hasn't stopped ringing. We've never seen anything like it before.'

The hot weather is also very good news for local hotels, according to figures produced by Hotels.com.

The travel expert website has reported a surge in Irish searches on the site for popular seaside destinations, with Wexford searches from July 1 to 11 up 65% compared to the same dates last year.
