Prison escapee is back behind bars
A WEXFORD MAN who escaped from Portlaoise Prision is behind bars again this week, having been remanded in custody during a hearing at Wexford Circuit Court.
Graham Hurley, 26 Brendan Corish Gardens, was before Judge Barry Hickson on a 'guilty' plea to a charge of escaping lawful custody from the prison on the Dublin Road in Portlaoise on June 22 last year.
He also faces counts of robbing €1,630 cash from Centra at Trinity Street in Wexford on December 31 in 2009, and with producing a knife and threatening a Garda at The Bull Ring on December 21 in 2010, while the Garda was attempting to carry out an arrest.
Defence Counsel, Carol Doherty, made an application for Section 56 order and CCTV footage in relation to these charges. She also asked for the preparation of a Probation and Welfare report in relation to the defendant.
Granting the applications, Judge Hickson adjourned the case for January 15 next.
