Public fund Michelle to help to bring her new book to life
Local writer Michelle Dooley Mahon is gearing up to launch her new novel in October, following the success of her crowd-funding campaign.
Her book, entitled 'Scourged-A Memoir', will be officially released during the Wexford Opera Festival in October. Michelle raised €5000 to make it a possibility.
'The support and generosity of my family and friends, and the contributors and funders have allowed what was an intangible idea become extant,' she said.
The novel documents Michelle's experience of living with a mother with dementia. Beginning in the 1960s, the tandem narrative unravels the memories of life in a small Irish town, narrated by Michelle and her mother in a series of flashbacks. Her work has been praised by several renowned authors, including award-winning Children's Laureate, Eoin Colfer who described Scourged as 'that most rare and wonderful creature'.
'Dooley Mahon delves deep into the mine of the everyday, mining the ore of tragedy and comedy, until the unsuspecting reader - laughed and cried out - is forced to go for a lie down,' he said.
Michelle also received good wishes from author Edna O'Brien.
All funders will soon be contacted to receive signed books and sketches.
