Public order

ROBERT Brennan (23) apologised for his wayward behaviour after he appeared last week before Judge Gerard Haughton on public order and theft charges. Brennan, his address given variously as 6 King Street Flats or 6 McBride Square, King Street on Wexford, attended the District Court with solicitor Julie Breen.

He was brought to the courthouse in Gorey under prison officer escort as he had been remanded in custody a month earlier. He heard Garda Inspector Pat Cody tell how he became abusive to a Garda on September 12 last at Quay West in Wexford. He resisted arrest and decapacitation spray was required to bring him safely into custody. Brennan also admitted a €30 theft at McDonald's bar in Wexford during February 2010.

After hearing a summary of previous convictions, the judge gave the defendant a suspended six months sentence for theft, with the public order matter taken into consideration.
