Publican is fined €200 for offence
A RIVERCHAPEL publican was fined at Gorey District Court last week after customers were found on his premises after hours.
The court was told that publican Jimmy Fleming, of Jimmy'z in Riverchapel, had a clean licence, but on May 10, 2011, 18 customers were found on the premises at 12.43 a.m. The gardai said the closing time was 11 p.m., though the publican maintained the closing time was 11.30 p.m.
Gardai had seen the lights on, and saw a man standing in a side doorway, smoking. Three more people were found drinking in a side bar.
Solicitor Garrett Fitzpatrick said it's normally a well-run establishment, and it had traded for 10 years without any difficulty. He said that his client, Mr Fleming, wasn't working on that evening, but accepted full responsibility. He that some of the people were waiting on taxis.
Judge Early fined him €200, and said he expected Mr Fleming will be more careful about his premises in future.
