Pushed garda in chest during row
A PIERCESTOWN man who pushed a Garda while drunk has been ordered to complete an alcohol awareness course.
Gavin Reid (28), of 8 Esmonde Drive, Piercestown, is charged with being drunk in public and acting in a threatening, abusive or insulting manner at Commercial Quay, Wexford, on July 18, 2010.
Garda Barry Brennan said that Reid came to his attention at 2.05 a.m. that morning as he was in 'a heated argument' with a female.
The Garda approached them and Reid told him to 'stop being a hard man'. He then shoved Garda Brennan in the chest, pushed him against a wall and tried to strike him a number of times.
Garda Brennan said that Reid was 'extremely intoxicated and aggressive'.
Judge William Earley heard that Reid has 13 previous convictions, but that they are all for motoring offences.
Garda Brennan said the defendant had come into the Garda Station after the incident and apologised, while he hasn't come to their attention since.
Reid again apologised in court and told Judge Earley that it would never happen again.
Judge Earley remanded him on continuing bail until February 6 next and ordered him to complete an alcohol awareness course in the meantime. He said that if he does this, brings a charitable donation of €200 to court with him and stays out of trouble until next February he will be given the benefit of the probation act.
