Regret at death of John Rackard
THE DEATH has taken place of one of the best known and best liked characters in the Enniscorthy district. John Rackard of Caim passed away at St. James' Hospital in Dublin at the age of 80 on Sunday following several months of ill health.
A member of the famous hurling family from Killanne, he preferred horses to Gaelic games. He moved to Caim in the early 1950s where a country pub and small farm served as a springboard to a more extensive business empire. A big man with a big personality, he had a huge zest for life and enjoyed his retirement to the full. He is survived by his wife Nuala; children Annette, Robert, William, John and Fionnuala; nine grandchildren; his sisters Molly Cullen and Rita Murray; other family members and friends.
His remains will be reposing at his residence tomorrow (Thursday, February 19), with removal at 7 p.m. tomorrow evening to the church of St. John the Baptist in Caim.
His funeral Mass has been set for 11 a.m. on the morning of Friday, February 20.
