Repair works planned for eight schools this summer
EIGHT local schools have just been allocated funding for additional accommodation and emergency works. The works are expected to be carried out over the summer to minimise disruption to classes.
Deputy Paul Kehoe last week welcomed the announcement of the funding which was made by the Minister for Education and Skills Richard Bruton.
The works include: mechanical works at St Colman's NS, Ballindaggin; mechanical works at Ramsgrange Community School; mechanical works at St Fintan's NS, Mayglass; Access for All works at Gorey Community School; structural improvements at Boolavogue NS; mechanical works at Scoil Iosagain, Coolgreany; electrical works at Ballyduff NS; and roof repairs at Enniscorthy Vocational College.
No details were available on the nature and cost of the work. Each school is being contacted directly by the Department of Education's School Building Unit with details on the relevant projects and the funding amounts awarded.
'Fine Gael in government is determined to ensure that our recovering economy can benefit everyone in society,' said Deputy Kehoe. 'Our children should be number one on this priority list, and it is really important that they can learn in a safe and modern environment.'
'I am delighted that local schools in County Wexford are to receive this vital funding for upgrade works,' he added.
