RNLI in action to assist broken-down rib
Volunteers from Wexford RNLI leapt into action last week to come to the aid of two people whose rib had broken down in the harbour.
The crew mobilised at 3.27 p.m. last Tuesday having received reports of two people in difficulty. They managed to respond within five minutes of being paged by the Irish Coast Guard and within ten minutes they were alongside the rib in question.
Weather conditions on the day were favourable with a south westerly force three wind. The crew immediately assessed the situation and established that the people on board the rib were not in need of any medical assistance. They then towed it back to the safety of a nearby slipway.
Speaking afterwards, Wexford RNLI Helm John Michael Murphy said: 'Contacting the Coast Guard ensures that the lifeboat can be on scene as soon as possible and it was a successful outcome today.'
The crew on the day consisted of John Michael Murphy, Peter Scallan, Ger Doran and Martin Conway.
