Robbie's romantic gesture is purely for the ladies

To mark Valentine's Day, Gorey's own Cupid Cllr Robbie Ireton presented the five female members of Wexford County Council with a red rose.

The loved-up North Wexford councillor was thanked by all of the women who were surprised by his magmanimous gesture at the outset of what transpired to be a lengthy, if convivial meeting.

After the meeting People Before Profit councillor Deirdre Wadding, who would often by at cross purposes with the Labour man, took to Facebook to say: 'The only rose I'm likely to get this Valentine's came from Council adversary Robbie Ireton who apparently gives a rose to all the women in the council when meetings fall around the date.

'I asked if he gave them to the women only and told him that was sexist. It changes nothing but I acknowledge the lovely gesture. Robbie's words in response to my incredulity... "I could hardly leave you out".'
