Rosslare lifeboat in search for anglers
A MAJOR air and sea search involving three lifeboats and a helicopter, was initiated off the north Wexford coastline last Wednesday evening after a boat, which was reported to be taking on water, failed to return home.
The crews of Cahore Inshore Rescue Service Lifeboat, Courtown RNLI Lifeboat and Rosslare Harbour RNLI Lifeboat were tasked to search the coast off Cahore, as it was reported that this was the area where the occupants of the boat were fishing. The Coastguard Rescue helicopter 117 was also called to the scene and began searching immediately.
The emergency call was made at 7 p.m. when the boat didn't arrive back at Cahore Pier by the expected time. The crew had earlier made contact with someone on shore using a mobile phone to say they were taking on water.
After a search of the area off Cahore, the crews were informed at 7.50 p.m. that the boat had been beached at Kilgorman, some eight miles north of Cahore, close to Castletown. Thankfully, both men were safe and well, and all rescue services were stood down.
Jamie Ryan of Rosslare Lifeboat said that the emergency services were on the scene quickly and said: 'The two fishermen did the right thing by raising the alarm when they got into difficulty and thankfully they were both found safely ashore.'
