School backpacks to get a Barntown blessing
THEY can be a curse and a burden for some, but divine relief is at hand with a special blessing of parish school backpacks and books at all masses in the curacy of Barntown over the weekend of September 23 and 24.
'Pupils and their parents are invited to bring their school bags and one school book and to receive a blessing as we begin the new academic school year,' said curate Fr John Carroll.
'During masses, pupils.. will be invited to bring their "work tools" to the altar for a blessing - a very visible sign both of the daily work in which they and their teachers engage and a petition to God for help, guidance, protection and encouragement as they negotiate their way through the many blessings and challenges that are the school year ahead,' he said. 'The event will emphasise the daily routine of our youngest parishioners, boys and girls who are engaged 'mind, heart, soul and body' in our local and secondary schools.
'Pupils from the parish who are attending secondary schools are invited to participate, our growing young adults who negotiate the environment of secondary schools in our towns as they grow towards adulthood as good citizens and good Christians.' Blessings will take place at all masses at 7 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sunday.
