Schools under fire over drug response
SOME schools in Co Wexford are acting like 'ostriches' when it comes to the drugs problem, a county councillor has claimed.
Cllr Bobby Ireton told Monday's Joint Policing Committee (JPC) meeting that there were problems in larger schools in the county.
'If there are drug problems in the school they tend to bury their head in the sand like ostriches instead of dealing with it, because they're afraid the school will get a bad name,' he said.
However, this view was challenged by Cllr Padge Reck, who said it was 'very dangerous' to make such a suggestion. Cllr Reck said that 'principals in all of our schools are very concerned with the drug problem and are dealing with it in the best manner possible'.
