Senator talks about Collins
TWOMEY AT HISTORICAL SOCIETY
SENATOR Liam Twomey gave a ' thought provoking and informative' talk on the life of Michael Collins last week.
The Rosslare-based Senator was the guest speaker at the Wexford Historical Society meeting in St Michael's Centre.
' The talk was fascinating as he walked through the years of Michael Collins's life, from his idyllic childhood in west Cork to becoming centre-stage in the fight for Ireland's freedom to his tragic death in Béal na mBláth at the age of 31,' said a spokesman for the historical society.
Senator Twomey gave an indepth presentation on the influences on Michael Collins, the numerous roles he played in Irish politics and, of course, his role in the IRA and as commander-inchief of the national army.
The talk featured lesser-known aspects of Michael Collins's achievements, such as organiser of the National Loan Scheme and as Minister for Finance in the second Dáil Eireann.
