The Gorey community was urged to start talking about the upcoming Marriage Equality referendum and to get out vote on May 22.

Director of Amnesty International Ireland and local resident Colm O'Gorman was the guest of honour for the 'Share the Love' launch which took place at the Loch Garman Arms where he stressed the important of 'starting a conversation' on the issue. The event served as one of a number of Yes Equality Wexford events to take place throughout the county in the coming weeks.

Marriage Equality, a not-for-profit, single issue, national grassroots advocacy organisation, whose goal is to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in Ireland through the extension of civil marriage rights to same-sex couples.

Sean McGarry, local campaign member said that there was very positive feedback at the Gorey event and a good turnout. He said that Ireland is the first country to give the decision on marriage equality to its people and that a high voting turnout and a strong Yes vote are very important.

'There is traditionally a quite low turnout at referendums in Ireland so we want to encourage the public to have the conversation and the objective is a particularly high turnout on polling day and for a high Yes vote,' he said.

Organisers used golden balloons with the 51500 text number at the launch to show the public how they could donate to the Share the Love campaign.
