Shop to pay out for sofa problem
A SCREEN couple who bought a sofa and armchair that quickly became ' uncomfortable, unusable and unsafe' have been awarded over €1,000 to buy a new one.
Aidan and Irene McGlone, of Ballyheigue, Screen, brought a claim for €1,168.20 against Cost Plus Sofas, Unit 1, Wexford Retail Park, over the furniture.
There was no representative from Cost Plus Sofas at Wexford's small claims court, but Mr McGlone was allowed state his case by Judge Donnchadh O Buachalla.
Mr McGlone said he bought the suite of furniture in July last year and six months later it developed what then appeared to be a minor fault.
However, when a technician came out he found that the recliner mechanisms had failed in the settee and the armchair. Mr McGlone said the padding in the cushions and seats etc had also ' sagged and sunk'.
Cost Plus Sofas told Mr McGlone they'd refill the cushioning/padding of the seats, but he told them he wasn't happy with that as they weren't 'fit for purpose'.
The company then offered to provide an alternative suite of furniture and Mr McGlone said they were in several of their stores apart from Wexford, even travelling to Dublin, but they could find nothing suitable.
The couple were granted a decree in the amount sought by Judge O Buachalla.
