The Slaney Purple Paddlers will row their dragon boat once again after members from Wexford Soroptimist kindly handed over a cheque to them for €1,630 last week in the Wexford Boat Club.

The ladies from Wexford Soroptimist held an Afternoon Tea Party during the summer, where guests generously donated money towards their fundraiser for the Slaney Paddlers.

'We had china cups, lovely homemade cakes, sandwiches, teas and coffees. The Slaney Paddlers were in need of paddles so we decided to raise some funds for them,' said Mary Kerr from Wexford Soroptimist.

Slaney Purple Paddlers is Wexford's first Dragon Boat Club which was established at the Wexford Boat Club and is specifically for breast cancer survivors as it can help improve movement to the area of surgery.

Dragon boating is a water-based team-paddling sport and the boat can hold up to 22 people, including a person at the helm and also a drummer.
