Solution in sight for JPC membership row

By Esther Hayden

A decision about the makeup of the Joint Policing Committee won't trouble the members of Wexford Borough Municipal District it seems.

At the December meeting of the Borough the councillors were up in arms at the thought of losing two of the seven places they had on the JPC to make way for two councillors from the Gorey area to address the geographical imbalance of the committee.

After much debate Director of Services Tony Larkin suggested that the councillors mull over the matter during the Christmas period with a view to resolving it at last Monday's meeting.

However before the matter could be discussed Mr Larkin said that since that meeting 'a number of possible solutions have emerged which are due to be discussed at the next protocol meeting. I expect that the committee will be happy to advance this and it will solve the problem.'

The matter is now expected to come before the next meeting of the County Council.
