Spate of arson attacks in Ross

Minister's office badly damaged

GARDAI ARE now preparing a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions following an arson attack on the office of Government Chief Whip Paul Kehoe.

In the early hours of last Friday morning Minister Kehoe's office on the Quay was targeted by vandals who set the premises alight.

Around the same time the boiler house at the rear of Coughlan Kelly Solicitors was set alight as was a car which was parked in Barrack Lane. Two local men, aged 33 and 21 years, who had been arrested and questioned in relation to these three incidents as well as in relation to criminal damage to four cars which had their windscreens smashed, have been released without charge.

Gardai say they have 'absolutely nothing' to link all these incidents with a motive and have no evidence at all that they were politically motivated.

'They seem to be random acts of vandalism,' said a Garda spokesperson.
