Special needs training for Wexford parents

A COUNTYWIDE training programme for parents of children with special needs will be taking place in Raheen Family Resource Centre next month.

There are twenty places for the county available in this 'Empowering Parents' free training programme, which will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Training will be run one evening a week, for two-and-a-half hours over six weeks. Each session involves discussion and group activities, and there will be handouts to take home so parents can refer to them later.

'Empowering Parents' is suitable for parents of children under twelve years who have any form of impairment.

'It won't solve all your problems, but it will offer you information and advice which will help you see things differently and to find ways of getting what you and your child need. You'll be with other parents who are in a similar situation to you, so there will lots of opportunity for getting and giving real support,' explained Bridget Kavanagh from Raheen Family Resource Centre.

The closing date for receipt of a booking form is September 30 and to book a place contact Bridget on 051428805.

Training will commence October 12 and finish on November 16. For further information contact Kay Teahan, DESSA on 087-3534432 or email advocacy@dessa.ie.
