Speeding

CLLR. KEITH DOYLE sprang to the defence last week of motorists who earn speeding tickets on the Gorey to Wexford road by breaking the 80 km/h limit.

'It's a bit rich to hand out fines wholesale,' observed the Enniscorthy Fianna Fáiler who enquired of officials how to go about raising the allowed speed. Director of road services Tony Larkin was not very enthusiastic about the idea of introducing a 100 km/h limit. He accepted that the argument could be made for motorists to be allowed drive faster on long straight stretches but he was concerned that any alteration in the limits would require extensive resigning on minor roads at their junction with the R741.
