Sr. Eymard devoted her life to helping others
A SENSE of deep loss has been felt at the recent death of St. John of God nun Sister Eymard Downey.
Dr. Eymard died in the loving care of her Sisters and the staff at St. John of God Convent in Newtown Road, Wexford.
She will be sadly missed by her family, her community and a wide circle of friends.
Aged 94, Sister Eymard was a native of Ballyroe, Jenkinstown, County Kilkenny.
A daughter of James and Brigid Downey, she entered the St. John of God novitiate in Wexford after completing her education.
During her life, Sr. Eymard showed a loving concern for all the people she ministered to in various hospitals around the country.
She ministered in the Haughton Hospital, New Ross; Ely Hospital, Wexford, Castlecomer; Parktown Nursing Home, St. John's Hospital and Brownswood Hospital, Enniscorthy and in Edenderry.
Sr. Eymard retired to the St. John of God Convent in Wexford in 1990.
She had a great interest in life up to the very end.
She loved visits from her brother Shem, her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She enjoyed sport especially when Kilkenny were involved and was very proud of the achievments on the playing field of her brother Shem and also her nieces Angela and Anne.
Sr. Eymard will be greatly missed by her sister Nan; her brother Shem; her extended family; her community and her many friends.
Her funeral Mass was celebrated in the St. John of God Convent and burial took place in the convent cemetery.
