St Garvan's NS celebrates teachers who are now principals
There were scenes of celebration in St Garvan's National School, Caroreigh, when two former teachers were recognised for taking up new Principal appointments in other schools.
Laura Kelly and Tom Cousins both taught in the school for a number of years and they returned for a special celebration of them taking up roles as principals in the national schools in Glenmore and Adamstown, respectively.
A spokesperson for St Garvan's said the event was organised to say thank you to both for their contribution to the school over the years.
She said it was also organised to wish Ms Kelly and Mr Cousins well in their new appointments.
Mass, which was celebrated by the Chairperson of the Board of Management Fr Robert McGuire, was attended by the pupils and staff of the school as well as parents, former staff members and people from the wider local community.
After the Mass the celebrations continued with entertainment provided by the children in the school hall. Presentations were made to Ms Kelly and Mr Cousins on behalf of the Board of Management, the Parents' Council and students. Refreshments were also organised on the day, provided by the Parents' Council.
