Star to close over Easter, marking the end of an era
AFTER 18 years at the helm of one of Wexford town's longest established businesses, the Star Bakery, Marie Doyle says she is to retire and close the bakery.
'I have been in the bakery for 18 years, but I'm here about 34 years because of the butchers next door with Richie. I need a rest,' said Marie, after announcing that the bakery will close its doors for the last time over the Easter weekend.
Marie, who employs 12 part- and full-time staff, said she hadn't yet decided what to do with the premises at 78 South Main Street.
'I've got nine grandkids, so I will have plenty to do when I retire,' she said.
Before Marie took over the Star, it was owned and run for 25 years by the late Bernie Roche.
