State is new owner of saucepan sets!
WE OWE BILLIONS TO THE IMF, BUT...
THE STATE is the new owner of four sets of saucepans and seven sets of cutlery after last week's sitting of Enniscorthy District Court.
Judge Donnchadh O Buachalla was presented by Garda Inspector Pat Cody with an application made under the Police Property Act by Superintendent Peter Finn. The inspector explained that the goods had been seized back in January 2005 from a man with an address in the Netherlands by Detective Garda Martin Brauders.
Franciscus Cornelius Maria Kunst, with an address at Arnhem had undertaken to keep in touch with the Gardaí in Enniscorthy but failed to do so. Calls were made by officers to his mobile phone but it appeared to be turned off.
An attempt was made to notify Kunst of the proceedings but he was not present on Wednesday for the court sitting. The inspector reckoned that het value of the pots and cutlery was between €150 and €170. Goods of this sort were associated with a scam at the time.
The seized items had since been stored at Enniscorthy Garda station. The judge granted forfeiture to the State.
