Stolen goods are on sale within hours
Stolen items are being sold at car boot sales within hours.
Speaking at last week's meeting of the Wexford Joint Policing Committee Cllr Willie Fitzharris wondered if car boot sales around the county are being policed.
Chief Superintendent John Roche said the main car boot sale was in Oulart. He said the main problem was that much of the property being stolen was unidentifiable. He cited one case where property had been stolen at 2.30am in Dundalk on Saturday night/Sunday morning and it was up for sale in Oulart at 6.30am that same day.
'That's how quick and how fast they (the thieves) are', he said. 'It's sold on a first come first served basis. We have a property store in Enniscorthy which is full of unidentifiable property.'
He also said that in many cases people are buying things for a fraction of their value without asking questions.
