The Christmas spirit was certainly alive and well in Taghmon this year as the children from the local national school took to the altar at St Fintan's Church to put on their nativity play and concert.

Having already welcomed Santa Claus to the village to turn on the Christmas lights amid great excitement, the Christmassy feeling was well and truly cemented by the time the adorably costumed kids took centre stage, along with the choir and a whole host of local performers for a truly magical evening.

This performance was the third and final one before Christmas and the kids were well rehearsed and in flying form, anxiously awaiting the arrival of Santa.

'It was a lovely night,' said Flor Hayden of the village square committee. 'Last year we just had the nativity play in the square when the lights were being switched on, but this year we asked Fr Robert and he thought it would be a great idea to do it in the church. The kids were great and then we had a wonderful performance from the choir, some lovely singers and even a girl playing the harp. It was really brilliant.'
