Tamsin is a real inspiration

NOW AND THEN: Tamsin O'Neill has herself lost over four stone.

Super slimmer Tamsin O'Neill has proved she's red hot after winning a Ruby Award as a Slimming World consultant for her work in helping to tackle obesity.

Tamsin, who runs the Wexford Slimming World group, in Whites, of Wexford Town, received the award for inspiring dozens of people in the local community to start losing weight and to improve their health.

The accolade sees Tamsin, who lost four stone with Slimming World herself, become a Ruby Consultant in the only the group's second month. The award was created in 2009 to celebrate Slimming World's 40th anniversary and is given to all Consultants in the UK and Ireland who welcome 40 new members to their group in one month. For years Tamsin had rejected invitations for parties, weddings and social events because she never felt comfortable, in herself or in her clothes. She even turned down being her best friend's bridesmaid request for fear of getting into photos. She was always the one taking them.

'I tried to put on a brave face and tried to smile, yet I felt as if I was broken inside. My joints ached, my skin felt tight and cracked, huge parts of my body were covered in psoriasis and I kept my husband awake snoring loudly most nights'.

Tamsin says, 'More than two-thirds of the adult population are overweight and that includes Wexford Town. Some adults are so severely overweight that they're putting their health at risk and sadly some children are also struggling with their weight too.'

'Lots of people want to lose weight but they often don't know how or where to turn for help. Tamsin, who lives in Gorey, said members in the Whites of Wexford group have lost 755 pounds, or almost 54 stone, since June 9. Members follow the club's Food Optimising eating plan, which encourages slimmers to make small, easy changes to the way they shop, cook and eat so they make healthier choices and lose weight without ever going hungry or feeling deprived. Each week, as well as weighing in to log their progress, members are motivated for the week ahead by sharing recipes, advice and ideas for coping with challenges.
