Threatened to burn down garda station

A MAN WHO threatened to ' burn down the Garda Station with a petrol bomb' appeared before Judge Donnchadh O Buachalla at Wexford District Court last week.

Eugene Cogley, 8 Canon Murphy Park, Clonroche, was given a four-month prison sentence, but Judge O Buachalla ordered that the warrant would not issue once the defendant is of good behaviour for two years.

The defendant is charged with being drunk and a danger to himself and others at Main Street, Taghmon on July 17, 2010. He is also charged with engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour at Templeshannon on September 25.

Garda Dean O 'Gorman told Wexford District Court that on Saturday, September 25, 2010 he saw the defendant approach a patrol car. He pulled his top up and started laughing.

He then went to Treacy's Hotel where he was refused entry. He pushed the door in an abusive manner, and the Gardai decided to arrest him.

During the course of his arrest the defendant 'continued to be abusive' and he ' threatened to burn down the Garda Station with a petrol bomb'.

The defendant has since apologised for his behaviour.

On July 17 he was found in an intoxicated state in Taghmon.

The defendant is unemployed and living at home.

Judge Donnchadh O Buachalla imposed a four month sentence but ordered that it be suspended on the condition that the defendant is of good behaviour for two years.
