Threatened to kill garda at christening
A MAN who told a garda that he would kill him in a disturbance during a christening party, was given the benefit of the Probation Act by Judge Patrick Clyne at Wexford District Court.
John Murphy (59), Croke Avenue, was charged with being drunk and engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour at Monck Street on July 17 last.
Inspector Pat McDonald said gardai were called to Maggie Mays pub where the family were celebrating a christening.
The defendant was asked to step away from the incident but he made a threat to Garda Dennehy that he would kill him.
Eva Lawlor, solicitor said her client is not someone who gets into trouble.
She said a difficulty arose between one of his sons and a member of the bar staff and when gardai arrived on the scene, the incident took on a different light.
'He is very apologetic and says this will not happen again,' she told the court.
