Time to limber up for the annual GOAL mile charity fundraiser
WHILE MOST people only felt like staying warm and well fed in the snow spell there were plenty of people gearing up for the second annual Wexford GOAL mile, which takes place at Rosslare Strand athletics track at 11 a. m. on St. Stpehen's Day. Hundreds of people exercised off the Christmas over-eat last year and raised several thousand euro for GOAL's work in the developing world. Organisers hope the response will be even greater this year.
' It was a great success in 2009, and once again we are encouraging runners, non-runners, walkers, families and anyone who fancies working off the Christmas Day excesses to take the trip down to Rosslare Strand anytime from 11 a. m. to 1 p. m. and make the event even bigger and better than last year,' say organisers Shane McCormack and Dave Williams.
Villages and towns all over the country organise their own GOAL mile, and people are simply required to run or walk a mile and contribute whatever they can afford to GOAL on the day. Sponsorship cards are also available before the event.
Sounding the hooter at the start of the event will be former Wexford hurling manager and Rosslare native, Liam Griffin, while a number of well-known Wexford personalities are also expected to lend their support on the day.
